How do I configure my dell M1730 to play surround sound?

Q: I know that there is some way to set the three audio ports on the side of the computer to play 5.1 surround sound, but I can't figure out how to set them. Any help is appreciated.

A: The way to get surround sound on your system is by going to the Control Panel and selecting the SigmaTel Audio icon. You might need to select "Classic View" in the Control Panel to see this icon. Once the SigmaTel Audio Control Panel is open you will see a tab labeled "Jack Setup" that you will need to select. You can adjust the jacks individually by clicking on them which will allow you change them to the rear speakers, the center speaker, and the front speakers. Please note in order for this to work you will need to have external speakers plugged in. I hope this helps.
