Q: I purchased a buffalo drivestation 1TB, 7200 rpm, external hard drive. I plugged it in, saved all my music to it, then i restored my computer to factory settings. Now I have my computer all clean and smooth, but how do i use my external hard drive as extra (A LOT of extra) space for the computer to function, thus making it a million times faster?????
A: I'm afraid that isn't how it works... Having more storage space makes things easier for the computer to manage everything, but only speeds the computer up a little. I think you're confusing RAM (memory) with hard drive space (storage for files). More memory gives the computer more room to compute things and makes the computer faster. You can use part of the Hard drive as memory (using Windows "Virtual Memory"), but that is only used when it runs out of space on the actual RAM, and can in fact slow the computer down. RAM is a special kind of storage that is made to be especially fast to read and write from. Hard drives on the other hand, are made to have high capacities.
