Q: The uni I'm going to (hopefully) are Mac worshippers and so I practically don't have much choice but to get a macbook pro for the heavy graphics work. I was originally going to get a dell xps 1730, but looks like I can't now. How powerful is this macbook pro compared to the xps1730, can it play all the latest games etc. Also why are macs considered better for graphics work? eyeh no thanks on obvious scams.
A: The specifications should be comparable (though to play games you'll probably have to install windows and dual boot). As for why macs are considered better for graphics work, it seems to mainly be because the mac was the first platform to get photoshop, illustrator and pagemaker which caused many of the early people who started using computers for graphics work to develop a preference for macs. There's nothing inherent about macs that makes them better for graphics than ordinary PC's (and except for the days of DOS there never was).
