Q: Hey everyone, The other day when i turned on my laptop/note book a purple line appeared on my screen. And then today another one has appeared to the left of the other one! They both run verically down the screen. Is there a way to fix this or is it broken? I'm pretty sure its a LCD. Thanks!
A: it may be the inverter is malfunctioning, sometimes called the back-light.You can try pressing (gently) around the edge of the screen, perhaps twist the screen very slightly when you do it. If at some point the lines dissapear it is most likely the inverter is at fault. If they dont go you may find that you will get more and more until you get a solid line, this is still most likely an inverter problem. If the lines are incomplete then the individual pixels in the LCD may be damaged, it is most unlikely that this occurs in a straightline, usually you get spots where the LCD pixels fail. Go to a good repair shop and tell them you have an inverter failure, when you sound like you know what you are on about they won't charge an arm and a leg for something that didn't need fixing like the screen (that will come with a new invertor on it!.)
