apple ibook G3 800 Mhz with 128MB. upgrade to 512MB will help speed? video playback?

Q: upgrading to 512MB of RAM will help the system to run faster? or will be able to playback youtube videos? If no, what alternatives do i have to make it run faster? thanks.

A: It will definitely help your Mac run faster, though I can't say for sure whether you'll be able to watch YouTube videos. Upgrading your RAM is the single easiest way to make any computer run faster, and 128 MB is pretty low nowadays. YouTube uses Flash, though, which is incredibly inefficient when it comes to processor usage. It's entirely possible your old G3 just can't keep up. In any case, I would still recommend you upgrade. The RAM itself can't be that expensive, and you can install it yourself, though it's a little complicated. You have to remove the keyboard and Airport card (if you have one) in order to get to the RAM to replace it, so if you're not comfortable doing that then you should get one of the techs at the nearest Apple store to do it for you. Other than upgrading the RAM, there are a number of OS-related things that can slow your system down. Here's a list of things you can try: http://lowendmac.com/eubanks/07/0312.html
