Q: When I restart it, it goes onto a black screen and asks if I want to go to the setup menu or start windows normally. It then won't recognize my wireless net hardware. I've had to wipe my hard drive 4 times now - I've got an external hard drive so I don't lose too much information, but I have to reinstall all my software again. Getting to be a bit of a pain! Anyone know why this would happen or how to stop it?
A: it can be a harware problem.since you reinstall the operating system alrdy, it might the a problem with the hard drive and/or the memory card of your computer that is failing alrdy.try running the built-in diagnostics test on your laptop. if it's Dell, press key + POWER BUTTON to run it.that way you will know if there's hardware problem. if another brand, refer to the manual or call the technical support. Dell technical support is 800 822-8965.
have you install the drivers for your computer (video, chipset, network, sound, touchpad drivers)?
if not, have your drive disc provided together with the laptop when you bought it.
but if you alrdy did, do this.
can you now log to your windows?if yes, to check the wireless card:
go to device manager:
xp:
-right click MY COMPUTER, select PROPERTIES.
-click HARDWARE tab, then DEVICE MANAGER BUTTON
on the device manager, check the NETWORK ADAPTERS,if you see a red X on the name of the wireless card, it means you will need to reinstall the driver of the wireless card.
by the way Dell hardware warranty support # is 800 822-8965.
hope i was able to help.
