Q: after 'officially' shut down the computer, i will need to input the password and wait the system to boot, the next time i want to use the computer. it take me totally about 5 minutes to 'officially' turn on the computer. But, if i keep the computer on, after some times(due to the setting), it will hybernate, all i need to do is press on the start button when i want to use. i can always get back to my last screen, which is cool and no need to waste my time to wait the 5 minutes. the problem is, is it OK to the computer in long term? never turn off the computer and let it hybernate.even whenever no power, all i need to do is plug on the power, i b still at my last screen. just checking !
A: Hibernating is fine, just make sure that it's hibernating and not sleeping. Some laptops when they sleep, still keep the Hard Disk running and the CPU on. Hibernating will generally store the memory to disk and turn off the power which is the best mode to be. However Windows machines should be rebooted every once in a while. So you'll have to incur a 5 minute hit, because programs chews up memory when left on all the time, etc... 5 minutes is a very long time to wait! look at this guide to help you speed up your computer: http://www.tiphub.com/ViewTopic.php?topicId=1 Also if you think that your computer is physically secure you can use TweakUI from Microsoft to autologin with a password for you: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx
