Q: I went to re-install vista, I followed all the stages however when I am about to install It I get an error (sorry I dont know what one) but its something like 0x00400 Can I download these missing instillation files? how do I get them (I have the official vista CD) Thanks Btw I think its a virus that caused my PC to crash but I have all my files
A: Did you try to run the Repair option from your Vista CD? Why do you think a virus caused a 'big crash' on your pc? I would boot into SAFE mode with network support and then update my anti-virus definitions. Run a full scan to see what can be discovered and quarantined/removed. I would download Spybot S&D 1.5.2, install it, update it and run a full scan. I would then reboot the pc and see if I can get into my normal Vista desktop. If not I would boot my Vista operating system cd and select the Repair option. Follow the wizard and see if that can get your computer repaired. If you are still getting an error, write it down and then google it. Or go to support.microsoft.com and search for any relevant documents in the knowledgebase.
