Q: When I hit the power button, it will appear to start turning on for about two seconds, but then it will stop, as if in sleep mode. The hard drive activity light lights up for the first two seconds, then goes off. The power button remains lighted the entire time, as does the battery charging light because I have it plugged into the wall. A: you have vista. vista powers into sleep mode unless you go into the screen saver menu click power options and select what to do when you close the lid. in that section you can tell it what to do when you push that button. sleep hybra... turn off. i like turn off. for get sleep or hybra... ok so your issue. unplug machine. remove battery. attempt to push blue button. should turn off. put back in battery and replug in. should boot up. will ask if you want safe mode. say yes this time only. once windows comes up follow direction above to change button to shut down. then go to restart computer. all should be well.
