Laptop, possible electrical problem? Help?

Q: I have a laptop, i would like to attempt to fix, you turn it on and it shuts off ramdomly, you dont know when its gonna happen, mostly it happens when you apply slight pressure on the laptop. my friend told me it started doing that when he installed vista on it, the computer says it is compatible for vista. whats going on? is it an electrical problem? what do i do to fix it? how much would it cost to fix it somewhere else? please help

A: It's probably overheating - get some compressed air and crack the case - you can get instructions on the Web. Usually, the keyboard hinges up or comes right off after you remove a couple of screws. Blow out the gunk that collects where the fan blows across the cooling fins of the heat sink. Might take some poking with a toothpick or Qtip. While you are in there, check the ribbon cables - one might be loose.
