Q: Ok, so I took my Toshiba's Laptop battery out today after it was charged to 40%, and then left it in the freezer. When do I take it out? and will it survive in a normal temperature room of like 75 degrees as the highest? Because I can't leave it in the freezer forever. My mom is gonna be home and she's gonna make a big mess out of things. I'm trying to make my battery last longer. WOW! i didn't know it was that serious..... i put it in at 4 PM i think and took it out at 5 PM.... is it still alive?
A: Freezing doesn't work on Lithium Ion Batteries. Let it warm up to room temp before you use it. They need to be warm to work properly. You don't want it to catch fire while it tries to warm up to operating temp. They do catch fire when the temp sensor is bad. Read the label or your user manual. It will have a temp range for the system to operate in. If it's a Ni-Cad battery, You can sometimes freeze them over night, then drop them fairly hard (but don't be stupid) on the floor or counter top while they're frozen. The chemicals inside the Ni-Cad batteries crystallize over time. Freezing then dropping it can sometimes get you a little extra life out of them by breaking the crystals. Getting a new one is still better. Good luck.
