Q: Im sure drivers are a concern, but for audio drivers i have no idea where to turn to. My speakers dont have/dont need them. And Im fairly certain it is not simply a hardware problem either.
A: If your system was an OEM system (such as a Dell or Gateway) then the restoration CD that is labeled "Drivers" will have the files for your system. If it was a custom build or a retail system (bought off the shelf at Best Buy or Circuit City) then you might need to do some more digging. You can also run Windows Update on the system and choose "Custom" for the install option on the website, then look for "Hardware" on the left. If it detected your sound card, it will have the drivers available 99% of the time. I use Windows Update to help me figure out unknown sound cards in computers that I get in to repair. If all else fails, you can download programs from Download.com that can analyze the system and give you the information. SiSoft Sandra was a popular one, I still use it today.
