Q: Are you supposed to shut down the computer every night.. or are you supposed to put it in stand by mode?? I know every other computer you are definitely supposed to shut it down, but for some reason (I think i read it somewhere) I thought you were never supposed to shut down the I-MAC. Any one know anything about this?
A: Shutting down the iMac is no big deal. You can if you want to. Not necessary. If you do shut down you'll just have to wait for it to start up as any computer would. Best thing is to let it "sleep". The sleep mode is a low power mode and the hard drive spins down and the display goes off. It takes an instant to wake up and only uses the power like that of a nite-light when asleep. The only reason to never shut down the iMac (or any computer) is if you have active services running such as a web-cam or frequent back ups, then you should have it on all the time. I like having mine on all the time as I am using it remotely too.
