Q: how come the computer doesn't just have an on/off switch? you always have to go to start, select turn off computer and wait until it tells you it's safe before you can finally push the power button. it would be a lot easier if the computer just has an on/off button like a tv
A: Actually, you can configure your power button on the front of your PC to shut down the pc...this is in the bios. Please check your motherboard or system manual. Basically it acts like the start menu shut down...it will do a safe shut down. I know this because my 1 1/2 year old daughter shut my pc down a few minutes ago by pressing the button and it said windows was shutting down. Dell's do this as well...press the button and it safely shuts down. Now if you hold the button down then it will completely shut down hard and maybe mess up windows.
