Q: Gaming, Multimedia nVidia gForce 9600GT or ATI Radeon 3870 (not X2)?
A: Radeon excel in its 4000 series graphic card like 4850 & 4870. Other than those 2, i prefer Nvidia. Anyhow, why don't you just get Radeon 4850 for gaming purposes. This card is said to be same par with those more expensive Nvidia graphic card like 9800GT
