Q: The following is the configuration of my PC. I would like to know if there are any sites that would calculate how much power these components would need or if anyone with similar configurations could help me out. Right now I have a 400W PSU that i was using for my previous system. Will that be enough??? Or will I need to change it??? Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 [3.0GHz] Intel DG33FB Motherboard 2GB DDR2 Ram [800FSB] XFX GeForce 9800GTX 512MB Graphics Card 80 GB Hard Disk [IDE Interface] Sony DVDRW
A: Not enough PSU. They want a 450watt minimum PSU for the 9800GTX. Another thing to consider is the +12V rail amps. I once replaced a Thermaltake 430watt PSU with an Antec 430watt PSU when I put a video card in a customers rig. Thermaltake only had 18 amps, not enough yet the Antec had 26 amps--more than enough. I like to play it safe and put something bigger in than what is recommended. I recommend this PSU--550watts with one massive 41amp +12V rail so you dont have to monkey with splitting rails. Very stable rails and has all the power you need for further upgrades.
