Q: I would just like to see all the pros of a Mac and cons in one question please. I am trying to make the ultimate decsion if I like Macs are not. To be honest, I am currently leaning on the "hate macs" side, but have not yet completly fallen. I would like to know others opnions. please and thank you. :)
A: Thoughts of an outsider (Arch Linux) Macintosh: *You have to spend 2,300$ for a PC with a darned PCI-e slot for graphics cards *You're paying for the industrial designing; all those laptop parts needed to achieve the svelte looks mean radically higher cost per flop *Uses EFI, limits booting options *Monitor not detachable *Have you seen Apple's RAM upgrade pricing? *Not everyone actually likes OSX. I'm one of those who dislike it. PC Clone: *Runs more software, but 99% of that is shovelware rubbish *Can also run OSX, but will never be as stable because Apple gives no thought to any components but the ones it uses. *Cheaper, don't have to pay for industrial designing *You can easily build your own *allows add-in PCI-e cards for heavy gaming. *XP and Vista are pretty bad, but millions of users still like those OSes. You may be one. *XP and Vista require so many darned tools to keep them running. Linux or OSX don't need more than a firewall, and if you're paranoid, a rootkit checker and checksum comparator.
