Sound Problems With Sony Vaio???

Q: i have a sony vaio (cr series) The sound isnt working... I've always had some slight problems with the sound in that when i re-open the laptop after it has been in "sleep mode", the sound often doesnt work.....but its perfectly fine once i restart it, not this this time though! However....i know the speakers are not broken because when i restart the laptop, it WILL play the start up tune (???)....but as soon as i log into my account, the sound ceases to work again... I went into the sound settings on the control panel and according to that, there is no problem... Help please? xxx

A: hi lauren this problem is not to do with your laptops sound but more to do with the hardware profile for your account to diagnose this go to start>log off>switch user>then log in as a guest user,then try the sound as a guest user,you may find its ok,so whats stoped the sound from working in your account? do you use any v.o.i.p peripherals or headsets or usb phones attached to your p.c,as these are common reasons for audio configuration problems in windows,go to sound and multimedia and then to the "audio" tab and then check the "playback" entry and make sure the name in that box is your audio device,if its got a name such as "usb or modem" in the name then drop down the box and revert it back to the default sound device(this will be shown on the volume tab) another option is to run a system restore on your account to before the time when this issue started,this isnt my first choice of solution however if it does the job then go for it finally laptops have their own volume function which can be altered using the function key and then pressing the appropriate key(normally the up/dpwn arrow keys) so check with this that theres no problems with the laptops sound hope this helps,however any more problems let me know good luck lauren !
