CD drive quit working?

Q: My CD-rom drive is no longer reading anything (I've tried bavious discs and nothing). Is this something that can be repaired? If not, how difficult is it to replace? I've never done it before but I'm very mechanically inclined and very computer literate. With so many options, how do I know what to replace it with? I really only need a basic internal CD-rom drive. My computer is already equipped with a DVD/CD writer as well. I'm short on funds so I really don't want to pay someone to do it. I've also had too many bad experiences putting a computer in the hands of others. Thanks in advance for your advice! That's supposed to say "I've tried various discs" ~ bit of a typo!

A: It is not hard to replace a CD-ROM drive - just look how the old one is connected and do the same. You may have to check the jumpers at the back of the device (MASTER/SLAVE). Good luck!
