Q: I have an HP Media Center PC m470n. It runs on Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002. Intel Pentium 4 cpu 3.20 ghz. 2.80 ghz, 0.98 gb of ram. 160 gb in two hard drives. It has a dvd/cd writer and an extra cd rom drive. all sorts of ports for flash drives and memory cards and a connection for tv. I'll include Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard and HP pavilion f1703 17in screen. The only problem I have ever had is the sound card doesn't work. Everything else has ran smoothly with me. How much should I/can I sell it for?
A: Because of the sound card issue, not working and all, you could only get about $100.00. If the sound card was working I would say you could get about $150.00 to $200.00. You see, in the past year and a half hardware component prices have plummeted. Two packages of 2 modules of 1 gigabyte each of RAM modules (total of 4 gigabytes) that once cost $650.00 now can be bought for $70.00. That is a huge drop in price. Other hardware have also dropped significantly. If you had sold this a year and a half ago you could have asked about $600.00. Today, consumers can buy a very powerful machine that is loaded with features and including at least a 19" monitor for around $650.00 brand spanking new. The RAM, Video card, hard disk, processor, all much more powerful and plentiful than what is on this system. I am only giving you an honest estimate of what you could expect to get selling this unit. Good luck and have a nice day.
