How do I know which updates my new mobo needs?

Q: I am building this PC and I dont cant make heads or tails of which updates I acutally need to install, if any???? Here is the page of updates available under Downloads tab: http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=P43Twins1600&s=775

A: Once you have installed your OS, go into the Device Manager, double click on each component listed one at a time, click on the Drivers tab, and view the driver version and date. If the driver version and/or date at the site you provided in the link is newer than than the one listed on this tab, then it can be updated. Be sure you update your bios first, if needed. To know which bios version you currently have installed open a Run dialog, then type in msinfo32 and hit Enter. On the Summary page scroll down to your bios, and write down the version number. If the number listed is lower than the one at the downloads page, you should update it before doing anything else. If possible, use a floppy to update your bios. Your motherboard should have supplied you with a utility to update your bios and to save a copy of the older bios just in case an accident occurs while updating. You can use the copy to flash back to the original and start over. If you do not make a copy and you burn out the bios, you will need to buy a new motherboard. Your motherboard manual should have detailed steps on how to flash your bios with a floppy or from any other utility they have provided for you. If at all possible avoid flashing your bios from within the Windows OS, as that is the most risky method. Good luck and much success with your new system, please have a nice day.
