How should I partition my hard drive?

Q: Hi, I honostly don't know much about partitioning a hard drive and I'm building my own gaming PC soon. I will be using Vista Ultimate and I'm not sure how to partition my 500gb hard drive. Many people have said that they put the OS on it's own partition, while others say that they put their OS and games on the same partition, and some even put their documents on that partiton as well. What is recommended? Should I create one partition for my OS and one for everything else? Or... should i create seperate partitions for each, my OS, my games, and my documents? Also, please note how much space I should leave for each partition for my 500gb hard drive. How much should I use for Vista Ultimate? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

A: if you don't plan on doing backups and if you're not Dual Booting with another operating system, then you really don't need another partition. but if you really think you need one, use Gparted. it's a linux live distribution that lets you load it into the ram so you can mess with your hard drive totally unmounted.
