my computer keeps crashing and i need to know if i could fix it..

Q: i have a 5-year-old emachines computer with intel celeron d cpu, 80gb hard drive and 1gb ram.... it keeps crashing and i want to know if i could fix it myself before i decide on buying a new computer.... there is only about 8gb left on the hard drive and audio drivers are also failing.... i know software isn't causing the crashes, so is there a way to just upgrade the computer ... the new computer im considering is a $530 gateway desktop with 3-core-cpu, 500gb hard drive, vista, and 4gb ram...

A: try reinstalling your operating system. your system might be corrupted due to several improper shutdowns. though you're new taste of desktop pc is great! if you can afford to buy one, might be good if you buy one. nowadays, more and more softwares require high end computers. just try to fix the old one, so when you give it to the charity, they'll be more happier.
