is a speaker next to a computer bad?

Q: i recently re-arranged my room and found a spot next to my computer for a fairly large speaker. after having the speaker there for a while the computer turned itself off a couple times, making low groaning noises, and now it turns on for less than a second then just turns back off. i didn't realize that the speaker could have done this until now, and i need to know whats ruined in the computer and what i can do to get it working again

A: Anything magnetic, like the hard disk drive, could be ruined. Speakers have magnets in them, and if you put a magnet near a tape, floppy disk, hard disk drive, it demagnetize it and will ruin it.
