Q: 1.)I have a computer that runs a GeForce 6150 SE integrated chipset, and I was wondering if it would be possible to "swap" it out for another card with a little more power and maybe a little less fail. 2.)If possible, how would i un-install the drivers? Would I then be able to install the pci-e card with no trouble?
A: The only way is if your motherboard has a PCIe slot already available. So, first identify that you have at least one PCIe dedicated video slot. The second answer is that you DO NOT uninstall any drivers for the chipset...what you do is go into BIOS and DISABLE, ONBOARD VIDEO. THis should be an ENABLE/DISABLE feature in the BIOS. Next, you want to set the Video Hole, to the size of the card you buy, so that a small part of your RAM is dedicated to boot video. Usually, there is a BIOS setting to do this. Since I always max out my RAM on my computers, I always set my Video Hole to the same RAM size as the card has. So if I have a 256 Mb video card, I set the Video Hole to 256 Mb. This gives a total of 512 Mb RAM dedicated to video. The only way you would be stuck with what you have is IF, you either 1). do not have a dedicated PCIe slot on the motherboard or 2). If BIOS does not have an ENABLE/DISABLE Onboard Video switch. Some cheapo Taiwan integrated mobo's will not let you switch to a dedicated video card...
