mac mini for a first computer?

Q: my dad needs a computer. it will be for very basic use. nothing much more than word processing and web surfing. we are trying to decide between a mac mini or a cheap pc bundled with the monitor, which will run about $600. With the mini, he will have to buy a monitor and I don't know os x as well as windows, so I won't be able to help him that much, since he hardly knows how to use a computer but needs one for writing some books. The main thing we need here is reliability, but we would like to keep the price under $700 or 800. I hear extremely cheap pcs have cheap hardware and only last a year or two, but i may be wrong. this computer needs to last for a long time and needs to be easy to use. thanks in advance

A: Well for the most part I have heard that Mac Mini's are pretty good. I haven't used one before so I wouldn't know. But macs are overpriced compared to Windows PC's. You get WAY more bang for the buck with windows pc's.
