Q: When I played video games on my computer it would play perfectly for anywhere from one second to 2 hours. And out of no where my computer would shut off... first the monitor/video would go out into a power save mode and then about five seconds later the audio would sound like a broken record. I kept resetting my computer (now I know it was a bad choice!) to play my games (world of warcraft, gmod, Stalker, etc..) but now the computer will stop responding as soon as I turn on my computer! I opened my computer up to clean out the insides thinking it may have been overheating/dust in the hardware. But that didn't work :( On the motherboard is a red light. Does anyone know what the problem may be?
A: Daniel, You have power, so it is most likely not a power supply problem. The red led on the motherboard is a worry and also a tip. You say that the machine does not respond when you turn it on, does it load anything? Do you get any further than what is called as the P.O.S.T. (power on self test), which is where the component information is displayed, if not I would check all your cables are connected, remove and reseat the ram, if this does not work, then it is likely your motherboard has failed. If you can load windows or what ever before the machines 'hangs', then try reloading the operating software, not a complete reformat, just refresh the operating system (especially if it is windows). Good luck!!
