Q: My mom is getting a new desktop and I get her old emachines desktop. It has 512mb ram and an 80 gb hard drive. It had a dvd drive and a cd drive. It has an nvidia geforce 4 graphics carg with 64mb. I WANT TO UPGRADE. 2gb of ram(1gb x 2) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8224986&st=1gb ram&lp=9&type=product&cp=1&id=1166840340953 Sony blu-ray optical drive http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8699811&type=product&id=1199494484284 BFG- Nvidia GeForce 9600 gt graphics card. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8719041&st=nvidia&lp=4&type=product&cp=1&id=1200702767829 750gb internal hard drive. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8295793&type=product&id=1172880158136 This will probably take me about a year and a half to get enough money for this but I want to get into modern pc gaming because starcraft 2 is coming out and I want to run it at maximum settings. Is this a good upgrade?

A: No! Bad upgrade ESPECIALLY if you are waiting a year and a half. Computers change soo fast. You could buy a new computer with Quad core, with 4gb ram with the price of those right now. Do you really need a blu-ray drive? Well its up to you, but by the time you are able to save up to buy those things, your computer will not be worth upgrading. (mainly b/c of processor) Don't forget you will probably need a new POWER SUPPLY to handle the drive and video card and hard drive b/c emachines power supply is probably weak. Emachines are really basic computers and arent good for gaming. I suggest you go out an buy a new computer unless you absolutely have to upgrade. Oh and by the way, in a year and a half, you will be able to get much better components for that price, just make sure they are compatible with your PC.
