I am thinking about getting 2 graphics cards linked up with SLI but each card needs 400W power

Q: Do I need a power supply thats about 900W/1000W to take it on? You only need around 750W. Get a SeaSonic or Silverstone; they are the best and a solid power supply is the foundation for a stable computer. Get better performance with two Radeon 4850s in crossfire, this new combo kicks all butts anywhere near their price range. How does that work? why is it less?

A: There are NO cards that consume 400W. The 400W specs is actually total PC requirement. In your case, running SLI could mean adding 100 to 150W to 400W. Thus a 550W power supply should meet your needs. A 600-750W should give plenty of elbow room for future upgrades. If the cards you will use have PCIe power connectors, power supply must have two 6-pin PCIe power connectors. Power draw of current cards: 8600GTS~ 50W 9600GT~ 61W 9800GTX~ 108W ATI HD 3850~ 63W ATI HD4850~ 110W ATI HD4870~ 125W
