Q: Well, I'm building a computer. Can you tell me if all the components work with each other: Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811164104 160GB hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145162 2GB DDR2 667MHZ Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609285 Intel Motherboard with integrated 224MB of GFX memory, and integrated 6-channel sound card 2.0GHZ Pentium Dual-Core [Pentium E2180]: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116052 Will that all be combatible with the other parts? --- I'm planning to do a full install of Windows 2000, than upgrade to Windows XP. (Will all of those parts work with those OS's?) Eventually I will probably to an upgrade? Will Vista run smoothly with all that I chose? Thanks. Can I have your opinion on my configuration, and a few pointers? Thanks. I'm happy with the HD I chose... that's all I really need. Right now I only use about 25gigs out of 80gigs. --- On another note: I use my PC for internet browsing, email, Photoshop, Office, etc.
A: No link to the mobo, as long as it is socket 775 it should work... Not sure if Windows 2000 will recognize the newer hardware technically it is a legacy OS. You may have to go w/ XP right off the bat, if you have an XP upgrade CD try installing w/ it and hopefully it will simply ask for the win2000 disk to verify you have one. I have a similar system running the latest Ubuntu linux (excellent for basic 'net use), I got my CPU from (of all places) MicroCenter was slightly cheaper, good deal if you have one nearby E2180 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0287623 $60 (in store pick-up only) And that linkworld case/power supply is garbage!! If you value your components at all please allocate a bit more $ to the case/power supply it is well worth it in the long run. This one is much nicer... Cooler Master Centurion 5 w/ 430-Watt Power Supply http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3775010&Sku=C283-1184&SRCCODE=PRICEGRABBER&CMP=OTC-PRICEGRABBER $50 + shipping (I paid $66 total shipped), not much more than your $43 total w/ shipping, the unit is a RP-430-PCAR, a decent basic unit (made by HiPro) http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&tbcate=22&id=60 If you are going to run 24x7 I highly recommend an 80Plus rated power supply, Antec has the best deal for case + 80Plus rated power supply, the Antec NSK4480 w/ EarthWatts EA-380 http://www.provantage.com/antec-nsk4480~7ANT9003.htm (silver/black) $65 + shipping http://www.provantage.com/antec-nsk4480b~7ANT9004.htm (black) $65 + shipping http://www.xpcgear.com/nsk4480.html (silver/black) $70 + shipping cheers
