Q: I am building a PC for the first time. I am considering buying a hard drive from Newegg.com that is OEM. I understand that I only get the drive and no book or cables. But if I buy it , what else do I need to make this work? I assume a SATA cable, but what else?
A: depends on what drive kind of drive you are getting. Some can run on the power built into your system and others need a SATA power cable (you can just buy a SATA power converter to solve this problem). You will also need tiny screws and a small screwdriver to mount the drive in your computer. From experience, because i work in the computer field. Do your homework. You may need to format the hard drive when you first get it (theres nothing on it anyway so it wont delete anything). I recommend doing so that you do not have any problems down the road with having a different file system (make it NTFS when formatting) Note: Not all hard drives are SATA. They can also be IDE
