New Motherboard not booting up?

Q: Hello All First of all I work in IT and have built computers before so I should really know what Im doing but anyway: I have just bought a GA-945GCM-S2L motherboard and a Core 2 Duo CPU (BX80557E4600) which are compatiable as I checked the manufactures website but when I plug everything in and try to power on the CPU fan comes on so does the case fan but the dam PC does not post..it has in built VGA so does not need a graphics card. I have the speaker connected yet I dont hear the BIOS beep has anyone get a clue why this aint working? On scan.co.uk website it says about only 1% of its products are faulty is this the 1% please only awnser if you build computers otherwise please dont bother ;O)

A: Well Paul, if you don't get a post, that can only mean about one thing...I think you have a DOA motherboard BIOS chip. The fans don't have anything to do with the BIOS chip itself, except the CPU fan which controls the CPU fan speed and temperature settings in BIOS. The other fans, the case fans...you can run those and also some light up diodes onthe motherboard with a dead BIOS. The only other thing I can think of, is that you have a power connector with 20 pins and another one with 4 pins. You have inserted the 20 pin connector correctly, but you have reversed the 4 pin connector to the power. This will give you the problem you are encountering. If necessary, check the power pinouts carefully in your motherboard manual. Make sure that dang 4 pin connector is inserted correctly (YES, it can be inserted incorrectly! I have done it before, so I know). I am assuming you have a total of 24 pins for the power connector on the motherboard. I would advise, check your power connection first before gutting and RMA'ing the mobo. If you are 100% sure you have connected the 20 pin and 4 pin connectors correctly and you still are lights out, I'd say, RMA the mobo.
