Q: I have this really old computer that had no brand name and i believe it has a virus. I need to completely restore it back to its original state before i can sell it. I bought it from a computer repair shop super long time ago in the 90s. It didn't come with a recovery disk and every time i try to restore it with system restore the status bar doesn't even move. When i interrupt it and restart the computer it says "system cannot be restore to this date" Despite the virus the computer still works well. Anyone know of any programs or anything that can possibly clear out all the junk thats on it?
A: Why sell it? that computer can be used for Testing applications. but what i recommend is installing some Protection First i recommend avg free, this program has really helped my laptop, and the best thing is. it catches everything, trojans, malware infections, viruses, etc. Its really a good program, get it here: http://free.avg.com/ Then, your computer might be infected with some Prorat trojan horse. So lets see if its true. http://www.addaxsoft.com/applications/download/Anti%20Prorat%20v2.zip what you do is open the application. press on actions, and press "Perform a scan". After its done it will remove it But just to be safe Press on action, and press on the option after Perform A Scan What this "Prorat trojan horse" does to your computer, it gives a hacker full access to your computer. He can chat with you, he can format your whole C:/ drive The other thing i recommend CCleaner, this tool is also a savior for a computer that runs slow, or has viruses. I suggest this gets used every week at least, it scans and deletes useless stuff inside your C:/ this can be downloaded here: http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10315544.html when it comes up, run the scan. after its done see on the other site? there is registry scan that as well If not of this does NOT work restart your computer and press f10 "on top keys not the keywords" this is called "System recovery" when it comes up just press anything. advanced option is my suggestion. hope i helped!
