How can i reboot my XP computer without the disc?

Q:

A: hi wulf when you say reboot,i presume you mean "recover" and this is possible using the p.c,s product recovery disk, this normally comes with the p.c and is unique to your system since it contains drivers and software specificly for your p.c,s configuration to recover your p.c insert the recovery disk in your optical drive and restart the p.c,(upon restart press delete to enter the bios setup ,then press "advanced bios features" and change the boot order so your cd-rom is first to boot, the other hardware to boot is up to you, then after you have changed the boot order remember to "save and exit set up" to save the changes to the cmos...your p.c will now restart) upon restart you will be prompted to "press any key to boot from cd/dvd" do this and then follow the prompts as they appear, during the installation process you will be asked for your windows xp product key(25 digit key),so make sure this is at hand windows recovery(installation) is much the same as a windows full installation or upgrade and takes around 45 to 50 minutes to complete upon completion you need to install the appropriate drivers and software that hasent allready been installed, these include the latest video drivers and also your broadband setup disk(were applicable) note: some p.c,s come with a hidden partition that recovers your p.c(instead of a disk) and to use this there will be a message during the post(power-on-self-test) screen, this is normally a f-key such as f10 or f12 after you press this another screen will appear and unlike the recovery disk you get a choice of either recovery without loss of data or recovery with loss of data, then after this windows will be recovered from files on the hidden partiton this type of recovery uses a "ghost" image of your operating system and uses a "roll back" feature,so if you use any partitioning software be careful you dont delete this partition, however its normally protected by a security feature that wont allow you to delete it recovery of your pc without a disk is only possible by borrowing another windows xp disk and entering your product key, this can be done as the windows files are just the platform, its the product key that makes it your property, you will normally find the p.c,s unique product key on the side of the case so if you can find a mate with a copy of windows xp to lend you install it and then when propmpted for "windows activation" use the backspace to delete the current key and enter your p.c,s unique key, then press the retry button and you should see the message "your windows has been activated" if there is any problems contact microsoft by using the telephone number supplied and they will re-activate your copy of windows(providing the information is genuine) there are also downloads of windows xp/vista on various torrent sites however i strongly advise against this since the files cannot be 100% perfect, and some may contain malware/spyware finally if you dont succeed in finding a copy of xp then this may be a good time to upgrade to windows vista especially since the release of service pack 1 which sorted the problems that users were experiencing with the operating system any problems let me know good luck mate !
