Q: When my parents bought this iMac, the best buy dude says it doesn't need programs like Norton or anti-virus because it can't get any viruses. Is this true?
A: A Mac might download a virus, but the virus can't affect the Mac (using OSX). There are no known working viruses for OSX. You can however, pass a windows virus along to others by forwarding infect emails and such. I've been using Macs since 1987 and have never had a single virus. Never used any anti-virus applications either. Just keep the firewall on, and use common sense about downloads. Stay away from porn sites and bit-torrent sites as well. They're infested.
