My computer stopped recognizing my mouse?

Q: It is and optical USB attached mouse, it works on another computer, is six months old, and it did not come with an installation disc. I am running Windows XP. I get the message: USB Device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. There is no problem with Device Manager, and I don't know what kind of drivers were installed from the beginning since no disc was needed. I've restarted the computer, unplugged the mouse, and still gotten the same message. If I do need a new mouse, is there any brand that might stop this from happening six months down the line? Thank you very much

A: Mice dont need drivers off a disc, they all use the smae drivers, try pluggin it into a diffrnet USB port, as the Pc will then re-install drivers and it shoudl work, i used to have the problme every now n then with XP. however the mice controlelr chip may have broke os XP cnat see it as a mouse, its hard to tel lthe diffrnece but if it doesnt work in any other USB ports then assuem the controlelr chip is broke. Logitech and Micrsoft are good mice brands, Logitech mice are really ergonomic too so nice to use for long periods compared to standard mice shape.
