Q: I recieved an old video card from my friend for my Dell computer. I pushed it into the pci expansion slot, then booted my computer, still using the integrated graphics so i could install the drivers. I booted into windows and proceeded to install the drivers, i then restarted and booted into bios to turn off my integrated grahpics so it would use the card, but i restarted and got a black screen. My friend said he tried the card before he gave it to me and it had worked. so i booted into windows on integrated to check the device manager. It recognized the card as the MX4000 and showed it had the drivers i installed for it, but it has a yellow ! and it says the device has a problem. Does anyone know what this problem may be? i have the most up to date drivers
A: Here are a few things to consider: Did you plug your monitor into the MX400? I presume you did, but it's worth asking. You shouldn't need to install the drivers before disabling the integrated graphics. You should be able to install the card, disable the integrated graphics and boot the computer. Windows will automagically detect the card and install some basic drivers. Then you can install the most up-to-date drivers and reboot. . Installing the drivers first could have confused Windows. Windows isn't a fan of being told to do two of the same things at the same time. So uninstall the driver for the device, and redo everything as I explained above and you should be good.
