Q: lose internet, can't connect, have to try to install modem install disk, says we have unknown device. usually can't install unless i do system restore, and then it will let me install the cable modem 351000, tryed new hardware wizard, or should i use ethernet, or can i, the modem thing happens every other 3 days, why does it unistall itself, or as it says unknown device.
A: email me the exact name and model number of the cable modem and i will be able to help you out more.There could be a number of reasons it keeps disconnecting,i have a cable model for my high speed internet via an ethernet cable.you need to go to Start,click Control Panel,double click Network Connections,right click the connection you are using,click properties,when the page comes up you will already be on the General tab at the top of the page.look under the heading This connection uses the following items and click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) make sure it is highlighted and then click below that the Properties tab make sure the circle next to Obtain an IP address automatically,and Obtain DNS server address automatically.Then go to the Alternate Configuration tab and make sure circle next to Automatic private IP address is checked,then click ok and then click ok again and see if that will solve your problem,you should be able to use a ethernet cable for your connection.I would suggest also that it may be a problem with the modem,call your cable company to come out and run some test on the modem,even better they can do it over the phone if you call them and talk to technical support and tell them your problem.
