Q: Which of the two is "better" in your opinion?
A: This is a tough question but I understand their product line well enough to explain. The GeForce line is basically what they call all of their products. Even the FX line is "technically" still a GeForce product. FX basically only lasted through the 5000 series of cards (up to the 5900.) When PCI-express and DirectX9 became mainstream they released the 6000 series which dropped the FX moniker and simply became GeForce again. In the end it is all the same stuff. The FX series was really not that fast even at its debut. They were all around less than impressive. The 6 series rectified this with the spectacular performance that has Nvidia owning a big portion of the graphics era today. The 6 series and 7 series were pretty impressive, and then came the 8 series. The 8 series and 9 series changed the architecture of how graphics processors work. I wont go into detail as to how they work, but they are AWESOME. Now they are up the the GTX200 series (their post 9000 series line). Note that over this time, the motherboards have changed, and the slot where you plug in your graphics card has evolved. The FX series is completely incompatible with modern motherboards (not that anyone would try to buy one these days anyway). If you are considering buying don't go anything less than probably a 7000 based card or you will be dissappointed. If you have other questions I will be happy to help!
