Does The Amount of Video Memory Listed in Specs Matter?

Q: I'm currently considering this PC as a multi-use computer that I'd like to be able to play games on casually from time to time: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-a6554f-Desktop-PC-FJ464AA-ABA/sem/rpsm/oid/213650/catOid/-12962/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do I'm wondering if the 287MB of video memory listed in the specs matters with regards to adding a video card at a later time. I've seen other PC's in this price range with much higher video memory totals. Does the 287MB mean any card with memory higher than that is useless? As of now I don't play any heavy graphics oriented games. I guess my question is if I decide to try one sometime on this PC, would a video card be able to elevate it to where it would need to be, or will that 287MB hold it back completely. One more thing =p I've been seeing the 287MB of video memory as a cap, or upper limit. Is it actually just a number that increases by the amount of the memory associated with the video card you install?

A: depends on what your going to use it for if its just for school or surfing the web and stuff like that yes that's plenty if you game that's still a lot but some of the graphic hungry game will take a little more
