Q: hey people hi.. well i got 2 EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB and I am thinking about the new 9800 GX2. Which one is better 2 GTS or 1 GX2 ??? big difference?
A: Sadly, the 9800GX2 is faster. Because specifics wise, the 9800GX2 is basically two 8800GTS 512MB in a single video card. This means the 8800GTS 512MB is faster than the 8800GTS 640MB. As for the "disrepancy" between the 8800GTS 512MB being faster than the 8800GTS 640MB, it's because the 512MB uses an improved core of the GeForce G80 chip. There is a huge difference performance difference between the 8800GTS 640MB and the 8800GTS 512M, it's because the Radeon 3870 beats it easily ( The 8800GTS 640MB). But the 3870 is beaten by the GeForce 8800GT (5-10%), and yet the 8800GTS 512MB is slightly faster than the 8800GT. (5-10%) ... Yes it is confusing, blame NVidia.
