Graphics card Not Recognized by PCI-E, No Display

Q: So here's the deal. I have an Asus M2A-VM HDMI motherboard. It came with a bundled (but separate) PCI Express card (Radeon X1250). It actually does a good job, but some blu-rays play a little "jerky." So I decided to get a card with more onboard memory, faster. Well, no luck. First I bought an Nvidia card, very high quality. The motherboard wouldn't recognize it. I made sure in BIOS that PCI-E was primary, and that I uninstalled ATI Catalyst first, and then uninstalled the X1250 in the uninstall programs utility (Windows Vista 64 bit is what I run on). All I got was a black screen. I could another monitor into the onboard VGA (motherboard), but the graphics card was never recognized, even BIOS wouldn't pop up. So I got another high quality card, this time an ATI (All-in-Wonder HD). Same exact thing...motherboard does not recognize it whatsoever. Black screen. I called, and ATI tech support said I probably just had a bad card, but no way...two high quality cards from the two biggest manufacturers, both bad? Not plausible. I put the X1250 back in and it was immediately recognized and works fine, so no problem with the PCI-E slot. This is clearly some kind of compatibility issue, but what's weird is that I was using a Radeon/ATI X1250, but a newer, better ATI Card is still utterly unrecognized. I have 480W power supply, which according to ATI Tech support is plenty, as the All-in-Wonder needs 350W power supply. I have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers. What could the deal be here?

A: try clearing the BIOS. open your PC, remove the CMOS battery for 2 minutes, and then put it back in. This clears your BIOS and puts it back to factory defaults.
