A: The 8500's are pretty slow. Yes it supports DX10 but it's going to be one of the slowest cards that do. I'd say the beginning of the "decent gaming cards" is the 8800GT which you can get for $120 if you shop around. The 9600GT's are similar to performance. That being said, any PCI-Express card will be a big improvement over the onboard video on your motherboard. MMO's will be fine with a 8500, but not first person shooters.
