How much should I increase my RAM

Q: I don't know why I want to increase my RAMs for. I have 2 Gb of RAM and its been good but I would like more booting speed. I have two 1gb RAMs which adds for 2GBs. Will it be faster if I changed one of the chips and added 2GB to get a total of 3Gb I know 2x2 gb=4 is better but I may wanna take it step by step cause of the money. Thanks PC. I have a Toshiba cosmio laptop. I can't add two more stick, I just have place for one more.. so its either adding 1Gb or adding 2x2gb which I might do eventually. I am just wondering what will happen if I took it step by step and GB by GB ;p WILL IT REALLY slow me down if I added just one chip of 2Gb Is it better to keep it with 2x1gb until I can efford 2x2gb?! Thanks everybody Sorry, its PS. and I have two memory slots only, not one more :S

A: Your pc is probably using DDR2 RAM. DDR2 Ram is coming considerably way down in price lately, thanks to the newer 800 mb RAM that is coming out. My advice is if you are wanting to max your pc's performance with RAM, find affordable deals on it at like Circuit City or Best Buy, or even Ebay, and give your pc the mosft RAM it can hold. Both my newest laptop and my desktop is maxed out with the 4 gb RAM, and they are so incredibly fast and awesome. I bought the 2 gb RAM chips for my laptop when they were first appearing for sale, which at that time costed a lot of money; but now, months later, they are becoming obsolete, and you can get the 2 gb RAM chips for really low prices. I was in Best Buy a few weeks ago, and Kingston DDR2 RAM for notebooks, PC-5300 667 MHZ, were priced at 55.00 per stick. That is much better than the price of 145.00 that I paid when I first bought them for my laptop. My advice to you is watch for those sales, and when you see them, get those RAM deals from Best Buy. When Best Buy has sales on computer items, take your checkbook, checkcard, or cash money or credit card and buy, man, buy!!! Buy Buy Buy that computer stuff!!!!!!
