What is the point of getting 2 graphics cards and SLI?

Q: I have a 9600 GT and for the games i play (call of duty 4, Half life 2, ect.) it runs pretty well and was wondering if the performance would be any better if i got another and hooked it up with my montherboard's SLI bridge. Other hardware : Motherboard: MSI P6N diamond Powersupply: 1010 watt processor: core duo 2.3Ghz OS: XP home edition I wont be playing games like crysis and such because i only have directx9 and thats all that windows xp will support, if there was a way i could get crysis to run on XP ill definatley get it.

A: First of all, you've gotta make sure you're motherboard can run SLI and enough power. Considering you've got a 9600 GT, it probably does, but it's better to double check. SLI is as simple as this: Right now you don''t have SLI, so you've only got ONE GPU working. so 512 MB If you have SLI, you can have TWO GPUs working at the same time. so 512MB+512MB=1024MB You really don't need SLI for COD4 and HL2 (my old laptop has solo core, had an ATI Radeon Mobility x600 and could run COD4 medium and HL2 high), but for more demanding games such as Crysis, World in Conflict upcoming games, etc. SLI will really make a difference. If you've got the right motherboard, a 1000W power supply and about $1000 (I think), you can get quad-SLI (since you don't play Crysis, you probably don't need it =p)
