Boot from External DVD in Windows 2000?

Q: I recently purchased a HP Vectra IV computer running Windows 2000. I partitioned the Hard Drive, and was all set to set up a Win 2K/gOS Space dual-boot-------or so I thought. This computer did not have a DVD drive, so I set up an external one, and it working fine: I was able to watch movies, read and burn discs with ease. The only problem was, when I inserted the gOS Space CD and rebooted the computer, I was unable to boot from DVD. This worked fine when I was using a cd in the internal drive, but for some reason I couldn't boot from DVD. I even went into the system settings, and changed the boot order (booting external devices and the cd-rom before the hard drive), but this didn't work, either. How can I fix this problem?

A: When you boot you have to press F12 or something and then boot from CD and so on
