Why are WACOM tablets so expensive?

Q: I opened my tablet pc to upgrade the RAM, it turns out that the WACOM module is nothing more than a simple grid board, (no resistors, capacitors or anything else) with a small controller board. The circuit design is very simple when compared to other cheaper devices. Why is it so expensive at $1000 for a large board, when a much more complex PC motherboard costs as little as $50? If they got their heads out of the clouds, they could easily implement this technology, given the low cost of materials, in most TVs laptops and desktop lcds creating a bigger market for their product aside from today's exclusive niche market.

A: I'd guess simple supply and demand. There aren't tons of places in China, Mexico, Taiwan, the Phillipines, Korea etc all manufacturing Wacom tablets by the boatload, so the cost hasn't been driven down.
