Installing DDR Memory?

Q: I put some new mem in my PC. My PC didnt recognize it when I turned it on. How do I get it to recognize the new Mem? Im guessing from the BIOS but this is my first PC so Im kind of lost. I bought two identical DDR Mem off crucial.com to fill all my mem slots. They scanned my system and recommended the compatible Mem. which is what I got. Thanks so much for any help! System: Gateway Desktop, GT 5098E They Sent me DDR 3200 mem Im going to try and push them in a little better, then I'll try to find them in BIOS, than ks for the suggestions! I dont think the Mems in all the way, I can still see a tiny part of the gold connectors, but I'm pushing on them hard. Hard enough to were my mother board creaks... is there some trick to getting them in? YES, that was it the Memory was just not in all the way, Man I had to push hard, I thought I was going to break my motherboard! Thanks a ton everyone!

A: I wouldn't call myself an expert but but I do have some experience so I'll try to help. First: It might sound silly but make sure you've got the sticks in all the way, sometimes it sounds like they've clicked in but they really havn't Second: I don't know how much you put in but some computers can only read a certain amount of memory, for example mine can take 4 1GB sticks but will only read (and use) 3.5GB. Third: Since you got an experts recommendation I doubt it's the problem but make sure it's the right speed.
