USB 2.0 related questions...?

Q: OK...my old Dell XPS computer has USB 1.0 (two ports) and I just ordered a new USB 2.0 card which will have 4 external + 2 internal ports. Please help me with the following questions about it. First of all...when I install the new card (and then the drivers from CD ) will my computer automatically deactivate the old USB 1.0 ports or will they still work.? (At the slower speed of course.) --- Secondly...is the purpose of the internal ports to connect them to the old USB 1.0 so that the main 2 ports (old external ones) are then converted to USB 2.0 as well? Lastly...is there any logical reason to leave the old ports alone and just keep my keyboard and mouse plugged into them and just use the new USB 2.0 for stuff that benefits from faster data transmission? Please go into detail if you know a lot about USB...I want to understand this all before my new card arrives. Thank you all very much for your help. :-)

A: 1. Nope, your computer wont automaticaly deactive the 2xUSB 1.0 ports, they would still run at the normal speed of 12Kb/s . 2. It does not convert ports to a higher version, the port themselfs use different technoglies. 3. Thats a good idea, leave your mouse and keyboard plugged in to the 1.0 ports, because they dont need USB 2.0 speeds. iDan
