Q: I want to get a new graphics card, but I'm confused as to what one to get? I currently have... Card name: RADEON 9250 Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. Chip type: RADEON 9250 AGP (0x5960) DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz) Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5960&SUBSYS_280117EE&REV_01 Display Memory: 128.0 MB Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz) I know a bit asbout computers. I know that a brown slot is for AGP and white is for PCI. I don't have PCI Express. (yes I know my computer is old!). So does this mean I can get either an AGP card OR a PCI? Which one is better? Also, looking at some cards, some say they have DDR2 ram. My computer ram is only DDR so does that mean I can only get a DDR graphics card? Any suggestions on a card to get (preferbly in the uk, GBP)? Not too expensive. Will I even notice much of a difference with a new graphics card? Only problem I've really been having is The Sims 2 runs a bit slow when it's loading stuff. My processor is an Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.93GHz
A: The best Agp card is proberly the ATI Radeon X1950 pro, its faster than a Nvidia 7800GS. Agp is almost dead in the water so ebay is going to be your best bet. ebay item no 140246557032 512Meg ,DDR3 Ram Very Good card and good make or 220252784970 same amount of Pixel pipelines as above +36 and 8Vertex shaders but 256meg ram make sure the seller has excellent feedback if u get one from ebay. also for note it does not matter what ram ure pc uses, as the G.card uses its own dedicated ram which for this cars is the fast DDR3 and u will notice a Massive improvement in your gaming. i have looked on google for the other users comments about the ATi 3870 and the answer is there is no AGP version of this card, but there may be,not sure when There is a chance that if your psu does not kick out more thatn 18amps on the +12V rail then you may run into power difficultys, you will now this when ure playing a game and ure pc shutsdown or the game goes incredibly slow or crashes. Take the side panel off the PC and look at the sticker on the PSU and it will tell you how many Amps are on the +12V rail&check to see what speed the AGP slot is X8 or X16. that card needs X16
